The Ranji Trophy 2026-27 schedule starts on October 11, 2026, and runs through March 3, 2027, with the Elite competition split into two league phases before the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

A total of 38 teams will compete across the Elite and Plate divisions. The Elite competition has 32 teams divided into four groups of eight. The Plate division has six teams in one group.

The Elite league stage runs from October 11 to November 5, 2026 (Phase 1) and from January 17 to February 4, 2027 (Phase 2). The Elite knockouts begin on February 9.

The Plate league stage also starts on October 11. Its final is scheduled from January 24 to 28, 2027.

Jammu & Kashmir enter the new season as the defending Ranji Trophy champions after winning their maiden title in 2025-26.

The Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season once again splits India’s first-class teams across the Elite and Plate divisions, with the Elite group bringing together the country’s strongest sides in the race for a knockout berth. Ranji Trophy 2026-27 Elite Groups

Here are the Elite Groups of the Ranji Trophy:

Elite Group A

Baroda, Bihar, Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha.

Elite Group B

Andhra, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Hyderabad, Karnataka, Punjab, Saurashtra, Tripura.

Elite Group C

Bengal, Delhi, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Services.

Elite Group D

Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Mumbai, Railways, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand.

Each Elite team plays the other seven teams in its group once. The top two teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals.

Ranji Trophy 2026-27 Plate Teams

Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim will compete in the Plate division.

Each team plays five league matches. The top two qualify for the Plate final.

Jammu & Kashmir are the defending champions.

They won their maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2025-26.

Their final against Karnataka ended in a draw, but Jammu & Kashmir won the championship on a first-innings lead.

J&K scored 584 in their first innings. Karnataka replied with 293.

Jammu & Kashmir begin their 2026-27 title defence in Elite Group A.
